‘Avengers 2′: Tim Roth Says Abomination Was Considered for Sequel

Tim Roth The Incredible Hulk Avengers 2: Tim Roth Says Abomination Was Considered for Sequel
Since the Marvel Universe kicked off in 2008, Iron Man, Captain America and Thor have all become essential parts of the greater as well as leaders of their own individual franchises. However, their anger-ridden ally The Incredible Hulk has been far less fortunate when it comes to striking out on his own.
The character has famously struggled to land a runaway box office smash. Both the 2003 Ang Lee Hulk and the 2008 Louis Leterrier quasi-reboot The Incredible Hulk (only the latter of which is considered canon within the MCU) earned comparably mixed reviews and solid, though unspectacular, box office takes. Ever since, Marvel Studios has relegated the Hulk to an ensemble player only and kept references to his solo film to a bare minimum. However, some new information indicates that the studio may be open to revisiting the world that was introduced in Leterrier’s film.
Crave Online recently caught up with Tim Roth – who played Marvel baddie The Abomination in The Incredible Hulk – about whether he would be game to return to tangle with his green-skinned nemesis in a future film. Here’s what the actor had to say:
“They were going to do it. They did do that. They were thinking, in The Avengers 2 or something. There was a movie we could do that at one point, but way back when. It just kind of got swept under the carpet I guess. That would be hilarious.”
avengers tim roth the abomination Avengers 2: Tim Roth Says Abomination Was Considered for Sequel
Roth’s revelation regarding Avengers: Age of Ultron isn’t entirely surprising, seeing as rumors have previously swirled that The Abomination could re-appear as an Avengers villain at some point. As it stands, he and the Red Skull are two of the biggest Marvel villains still open to return in future installments (the Mandarin, notwithstanding).
The latter character reportedly nearly appeared in The Avengers, and with Marvel Studios’ continuing mantra of “it’s all connected,” it stands to reason that the powers that be (i.e. Kevin Feige) are actively looking for opportunities to bring powerful foes like The Abomination back into the mix.
Avengers Age of Ultron Trailer 1 Hulk Upset 620x370 Avengers 2: Tim Roth Says Abomination Was Considered for Sequel
Yet, despite some reports to the contrary, the fact remains that the chance of seeing Roth return to the MCU anytime soon will likely be limited to ensemble films. With so many moving parts in place both on television and the big screen, one can’t help but wonder what surprises Marvel will have in store for fans when the two-partAvengers: Infinity War hits theaters in 2018 and 2019. Considering the curveballs the MCU has offered thus far, there’s every chance that Roth could still be receiving a call from Marvel in the next few years.
Would you like to see The Abomination return in a future Avengers film, or would you prefer if Marvel left that character in the past? Sound off in the comments section below with your thoughts.

‘Star Wars 7′ Star Oscar Isaac Challenges Plot Rumors

Star Wars Isaac Star Wars 7 Star Oscar Isaac Challenges Plot Rumors
More so than most franchises – whether they belong to Marvel, DC, or any of Hollywood’s numerous majors – it’s Star Wars that fosters the most fan hypotheses. Star Wars has one of the largest fan bases in the grand scheme of all things geeky and awesome - or maybe it’s because Star Wars attracts the most enthusiastic fans. Maybe it’s just because the Star Wars universe is wide open and thus invites lively bouts of theorizing.
This is true even – or especially - of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which has become the subject of intense speculation as it continues crawling toward its release date. Rumors abound over 2015′s most anticipated movie, most of which remain unsubstantiated, some less so, and none of which, according to actor Oscar Isaac, hold any water as regards to the film’s actual plot.
Isaac may be best known for his performance in 2014′s Inside Llewyn Davis; before long he may be better known for his work in A Most Violent Year, which has just opened in theaters. But by Winter ’15, he’ll be widely recognized as Poe Dameron, and his career will change forever.
Speaking to Yahoo! Movies about his involvement in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Isaac marveled over his Star Wars experience, from production security to his feelings on sitting in an X-Wing for the first time.
He also shared his thoughts on the leaks that have dogged the project, as well as the countless conjectures that have been made about the film’s hushed up story. Read on for Isaac’s full quote:
“I can’t speak for the cast and crew, I can just speak for myself, but for me I thought, Don’t you want to wait so you can get the real thing? But it creates excitement for it. I don’t think these little leaks necessarily ruined watching the trailer. And also, the [plot theories] that get formulated based on these things — they couldn’t be more far off-base.”
Well, he has a point. Everyone wants to know what’s going to happen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, even though we just got our first glimpse at the film in last month’s teaser; it’s an understandable but self-defeating urge. Knowing everything now kind of numbs the thrill of seeing it for oneself in a theater for the first time.
A Most Violent Year Isaac Star Wars 7 Star Oscar Isaac Challenges Plot Rumors
The choice bit here, though, is his line about plot theories. It’s not surprising that anyone involved with the movie, particularly a principal in the cast, might try to coyly dispel all fan guesswork; for creative purposes, it just won’t do for Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ core audience to figure out its twists and turns three hundred plus days before it opens in theaters.
But let’s give Isaac the benefit of the doubt and suppose he’s being honest, and that all the theories posed about the film to date are, in fact, totally cuckoo. Do we all really have it wrong? Have the leaks given away none of the film’s true substance? Could be that everything we think we know about Star Wars: The Force Awakens is just bunk, which, admittedly, would be a nice surprise when the film premieres next December.
Of course, it’s hard to say. Isaac doesn’t point to any specific rumors, instead choosing to brush them all aside in one gesture. Maybe this is just misdirection, or maybe there’s more to Star Wars: The Force Awakens than rumors can tell.
Star Wars: Episode 7 will hit theaters December 18, 2015.

Winter Movie Preview 2015

sr winter movie preview jan Winter Movie Preview 2015
2015 is going to bring us some huge movie events, including the second outing of Marvel’s super team in The Avengers: Age of Ultrona return to an iconic theme park in Jurassic World, and new chapters in a galaxy-spanning saga of Star Wars with The Force Awakens - but you aren’t going to see ANY of that fun stuff until later in the year!
As 2015 kicks off, we’ll have the usual slew of lackluster sequels and studio dumping ground offerings, peppered with the occasional breakout or surprise hit. Our Winter Movie Preview is a good way to know which films are coming – and which are worth leaving your wintertime hibernation to go see.

[REC] 4: Apocalypse

Rec 4 Apocalypse Winter Movie Preview 2015

Ángela Vidal (Manuela Velasco), the spunky young television reporter that entered the building in 2007 has exited with the swat team. Little do they know that she carries the seed of the strange demonic infection. She is taken to an oil tanker miles off shore which has been especially equipped for the quarantine.
OUR TAKE: After [REC] 3‘s pitiful attempt to push the franchise in a new direction, [REC] 4 thankfully brings us back around to the where the franchise started – with a somewhat bigger sandbox to play in. That doesn’t guarantee we’ll get a fourth installment on par with the first one, but at least we can say the potential is once again there.

The Woman In Black 2: Angel of Death

The Woman in Black poster excerpt Winter Movie Preview 2015

Jan 2nd

40 years after the first haunting at Eel Marsh House, a group of children evacuated from WWII London arrive, awakening the house’s darkest inhabitant.
OUR TAKE: The Woman In Black adapted a classic English myth to reasonable success on the big screen – albeit more so in the UK than the US. A January release date for the sequel is smart, as lack of competition in the horror genre (and a genuinely creepy trailer) will be a lure for fans.

In 1970, drug-fueled Los Angeles detective Larry “Doc” Sportello (Joaquin Phoenix) investigates the disappearance of a former girlfriend.
OUR TAKE: While the film will have very limited appeal for casual moviegoers, Inherent Vice is great genre entertainment for intellectual and/or cinephile types. FULL REVIEW HERE

Selma

Jan 9th (Wide)

The unforgettable true story chronicles the tumultuous three-month period in 1965, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led a dangerous campaign to secure equal voting rights in the face of violent opposition. The epic march from Selma to Montgomery culminated in President Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965, one of the most significant victories for the civil rights movement.
OUR TAKE: A lot of people may think that this movie is some kind of MLK biopic, but in actuality this movie memoir’s central character is an issue of race, society and policy that’s ironically now at the forefront of our culture once again. Hopefully director Ava DuVernay can convey the message of how Dr. King used hope, faith and non-violence (keyword) to sway minds and quell injustice.

Liam Neeson returns as ex-covert operative Bryan Mills, whose long awaited reconciliation with his ex-wife is tragically cut short when she is brutally murdered. Consumed with rage, and framed for the crime, he goes on the run to evade the relentless pursuit of the CIA, FBI and the police. For one last time, Mills must use his “particular set of skills,” to track down the real killers, exact his unique brand of justice, and protect the only thing that matters to him now – his daughter.
OUR TAKE: If you’ve been a fan of the Taken series through the inspired first chapter and less-inspired second chapter, you’re already signed on for this third go-round. However, if you’re on the fence because you liked the first and didn’t care for the second? This third installment is directed by the guy who did the second film (Olivier Megaton). Take that how you will.

Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle’s pinpoint accuracy saves countless lives on the battlefield and turns him into a legend. Back home to his wife and kids after four tours of duty, however, Chris finds that it is the war he can’t leave behind.
OUR TAKE: Clint Eastwood is a masterful director, and this film’s trailers (see below) have been uniquely structured to showcase moments of high tension and dramatic thrills. In short, American Sniper looks like it could join a tradition of great modern warfare films like Zero Dark Thirty or Black Hawk Down.

A man is released from prison to help American and Chinese authorities pursue a mysterious cyber criminal. The dangerous search leads them from Chicago to Hong Kong.
OUR TAKE: After the Sony and North Korea hacking incident, we have a feeling that Blackhat is arriving on a wave of public interest in its subject matter. Chris Hemsworth (Thor) is also a leading man with pull, so this film could find legs at the January box office.
-

Thank you.’) and offer him a temporary haven. It looks as though his luck has changed until this rarest of bears catches the eye of a museum taxidermist.
OUR TAKE: Paddington is a favorite across the pond, but it remains to be seen if American audiences respond enough to boost this animated feature to box office success.

Alice Howland, happily married with three grown children, is a renowned linguistics professor who starts to forget words. When she receives a devastating diagnosis, Alice and her family find their bonds tested.
OUR TAKE: It’s Julianne Moore in an Oscar-bait dramatic role, with co-stars like Alec Baldwin, Kate Bosworth and Kristen Stewart, to boot. If you’re up for this kind of well-acted tragic drama, this film is a good pick.

Doug Harris (Josh Gad) is a loveable but socially awkward groom-to-be with a problem: he has no best man. With less than two weeks to go until he marries the girl of his dreams (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting), Doug is referred to Jimmy Callahan (Kevin Hart), owner and CEO of Best Man, Inc., a company that provides flattering best men for socially challenged guys in need. What ensues is a hilarious wedding charade as they try to pull off the big con, and an unexpected budding bromance between Doug and his fake best man Jimmy.
OUR TAKE: Kevin Hart is practically unstoppable at the box office right now (Think Like A Man, Ride Along), so this movie should already have a strong head-start towards success. Meanwhile, Sony will be happy to put out a comedy that WON’T likely start an international incident.

In order to make good with his former employers, a submarine captain takes a job with a shadowy backer to search the depths of the Black Sea for a submarine rumored to be loaded with gold.
OUR TAKE: Kevin MacDonald has directed some great films (Last King of ScotlandMarleyState of Play), but also some films like The Eagle. This one has a pretty strange premise, and the fact that this is the first feature-film for writer Dennis Kelly really keeps it on the fence.
-

OUR TAKE: Johnny Depp playing yet another zany, strange character – and Gwyneth Paltrow putting on an English accent? Not really a winning combination for us, per se, but it’s easy to see this flick landing well with family audiences.
-

Strange Magic

Lucasfilm Animation Strange Magic Winter Movie Preview 2015

Jan 23rd

A fairy tale of goblins, fairies and imps meeting for the first time and the consequent confusions and conflicts the culture clash causes.
OUR TAKE: At this point it’s unclear whether or not the tagline “From the mind of George Lucas,” is a good or bad thing. Still, it’s from ILM and has names like Kristin Chenowith in the voice cast, so it’s really about the subject matter capturing people’s attention. See for yourself:

Black or White

Black or White Movie 2015 starring Kevin Costner and Olivia Spencer Winter Movie Preview 2015

Jan 30th

Black or White is the story of a grandfather (Kevin Costner) who is suddenly left to care for his beloved granddaughter. When the little girl’s paternal grandmother (Octavia Spencer) seeks custody, a legal battle ensues that forces the families to confront their true feelings on race, forgiveness and understanding. Anchored by an all-star cast and based on real events, the movie is a look at two seemingly different worlds, in which nothing is as simple as black or white.
OUR TAKE: Race is once again at the forefront of American culture, but whereas a film like Selma may provide critical looks at how history repeats itself, the question here is whether or not feel-good material like Black or White is actually contributing to the conversation. You decide:

Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars, but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning toilets and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine (Channing Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along – her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.
OUR TAKE: After a nearly half-year delay, the new film from the Wachowskis (Matrix Trilogy) arrives -and honestly, the latest trailers have looked pretty promising. A truly unique and original sci-fi adventure. Still, Tatum’s dog-warrior is a borderline silly idea, and with such a big budget, Jupiter Ascending remains a big risk at the box office.

Rosie (Lily Collins) and Alex (Sam Claflin) have been best friends since they were 5, so they couldn’t possibly be right for one another…or could they? When it comes to love, life and making the right choices, these two are their own worst enemies.
OUR TAKE: Collins (Mirror, Mirror) and Claflin (Hunger Games 2 – 4) have been young stars on the breakout for some time… might as well hedge your bets and team them up, right? But is a romantic story with the most cliched-sounding premise the right vehicle for that pairing? The popularity of the source book, Where Rainbows End,suggests so.

OUR TAKE: While the potential for Underworld-style mythos and fantasy/action fun is there, the delays in release, sound of Bridges still pulling his Rooster Cogburn act, some questionable CGI effects, and of course the ominous release date all have us wondering if this won’t be the 2015 I, Frankenstein.

OUR TAKE: The book series is already a phenomenon, so those who don’t show up on Valentine’s Day to see what all the fuss was about will show up to see how the book they read made it to the screen – while others still will come (pun) just to see some skin and BDSM body heat. In other words: CHA-CHING.

OUR TAKE: While the movie has largely flown under the radar, having the creative team behind Kick-Ass (Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman) once again handling material by comic book creator Mark Millar is actually pretty exciting. And for skeptics, the earliest reviews all agree that this is a fun and inspired take on the James Bond mythos.

OUR TAKE: The cast is back (for the most part) and the director is back, so… pretty much more of the same? Although comedy sequels haven’t been all that great in recent years (Hangover 2, Horrible Bosses 2), one must account for that rare gem to possibly come along (22 Jump Street).

Sam Raimi Talks ‘Spider-Man 3′, Says It ‘Just Didn’t Work Very Well’ (200th Post)

Spider Man 3 Rain Sam Raimi Talks Spider Man 3, Says It Just Didnt Work Very Well
Spider-Man hasn’t fared well on screen in the last ten years. After 2004′s Spider-Man 2 (still thought of by many as one of the great superhero films), the character saw a downward trajectory in 2007 with Spider-Man 3. In the 2010s, Spidey’s cultural cachet took another hit when both Amazing Spider-Man installments were met with a considerably more tepid response than Sam Raimi’s second entry in the series.
Andrew Garfield, the once and future friendly neighborhood webslinger (or maybe not), took the time to mull over his feelings on The Amazing Spider Man 2‘s reception in the press; if his candor hasn’t exactly served him well in his relationship with Sony, it’s no less appreciated. Now it’s Sam Raimi’s turn to make a statement about his own worst contribution to the Spider-Man franchise, which, despite occurring eight years after the fact, is also no less appreciated.
Raimi, currently embedded in that Ash vs. Evil Dead TV series for Starz, recently went on the Nerdist podcast with Chris Hardwick to shoot the breeze about his career; in the midst of that conversation (which the folks at Panjiba diligently, partially transcribed), the subject of Spider-Man 3 arose, and Raimi took the opportunity to get self-critical about that film’s ups and downs and where it went wrong.
Reading over Raimi’s comments may fill you with a sense of validation – they echo some of the more common complaints made about the film – but maybe, like Garfield’s, they’ll simply strike you as refreshing for their honesty:
It’s a movie that just didn’t work very well. I tried to make it work, but I didn’t really believe in all the characters, so that couldn’t be hidden from people who loved Spider-Man. If the director doesn’t love something, it’s wrong of them to make it when so many other people love it. I think [raising the stakes after Spider-Man 2] was the thinking going into it, and I think that’s what doomed us. I should’ve just stuck with the characters and the relationships and progressed them to the next step and not tried to top the bar …
Also noted by Raimi is that “directors don’t like to talk about their bad films”, which is true enough and just serves to make his frankness even more welcome.
Spider Man 3 Sandman Sam Raimi Talks Spider Man 3, Says It Just Didnt Work Very Well
Like both Amazing Spider-Man films, Spider-Man 3 has its proponents, but taking Raimi’s words into account, one has to wonder what a more streamlined Spider-Man 3 would have looked like. Might a low key Spider-Man 3 have served the series better by organically expanding on its themes and characters? In an alternate timeline, that movie could have succeeded both critically and commercially (and not just the latter).
Reading between the lines, Raimi’s sentiment becomes even more interesting; fans are indeed attuned to how well a filmmaker likes the source material they’re directing. Perhaps more importantly, though, the tendency to go bigger with each entry in a franchise may not be the healthiest impulse for studio tentpole. Spider-Man 3 suffered from too many villains and plot threads (not to mention some cheesy dance moves). Maybe in the case of films like it, less could actually be more.
But all being said and done, the key thing here is seeing a celebrated, successful director take a step back and humble himself. It might not make Spider-Man 3 a better movie, but Raimi’s sincerity at least invites us to consider it in a new light.

Emily Blunt on ‘Captain Marvel’ Fan-Casting & Passing on Marvel Films

emily blunt captain marvel Emily Blunt on Captain Marvel Fan Casting & Passing on Marvel Films
One of the superheroes who will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in ‘Phase III’ is Carol Danvers a.k.a. Captain Marvel; and so, fans have taken to speculating about who could take the role while also nominating their own choices. Jessica Chastain (Interstellar) has openly expressed interest in playing a superhero onscreen (be it Miss Danvers or someone else), while a longtime geek-fave such as Katee Sackhoff (ofLongmire and Battlestar Galactica fame) is very much a popular fan-casting selection for the role.
Emily Blunt is also someone whose name has already been tossed into the Captain Marvel ring; not just because her role in this year’s Edge of Tomorrow cemented her credibility as an action star, but also because she’s been approached to join the MCU before (twice, in fact). Blunt has recently been out and about promoting Disney’s musical Into the Woods, so she has also been asked once again about her past with Marvel Studios… as well as what the future might hold.
Vulture, during an interview with Blunt, segued from an anecdote about filming onInto the Woods (where Meryl Streep fell off a table and Blunt caught her), to how her“prior superhero experience” could come in handy, as far as getting her cast as Captain Marvel goes. Blunt gave a more serious response to the question, though.
“Oh! No one’s offered me that officially, so it’s … [laughs] very unofficial. I think it’s fan-casting, which is always very nice. But nothing official has been offered, for sure. If I get it, thank Meryl for it!”
Carol Danvers’ super-powers (in traditional comic book form) are the result of her becoming a human/Kree genetic hybrid. Hence, the seeds for her introduction in the MCU were planted earlier this year; first on the big screen, with Guardians of the Galaxy introducing the Kree species (via Lee Pace portraying Ronan the Accuser), and then the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series (during its second season) establishing the Kree’s history on Earth.
The question, however, is whether Blunt will be available when Captain Marvel makes her debut in 2018, as scheduling was the main reason she previously passed on offers to play either Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff or Peggy Carter in the MCU (something she also told us in the past).
“Yeah, but it was never the right time, really, and it just didn’t work out scheduling-wise with those two. It’s always a difficult thing to talk about, because it’s not fair to the actresses who ended up playing them, you know? It just wasn’t the right time.”
Captain Marvel Movie 2018 Release Date Emily Blunt on Captain Marvel Fan Casting & Passing on Marvel Films
Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow is poised to continue playing a pivotal role in future MCU developments, between her roles in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron and then (most likely) Captain America: Civil War in 2016. Meanwhile, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter is getting her own miniseries in Agent Carter, starting next week. Which is to say that, although Blunt playing either character would’ve been interesting, both Johansson and Atwell have firmly (and effectively) settled into their respective roles by this point in time.
Nonetheless, as the MCU continues to grow even bigger, that means there will be more opportunities for people such as Blunt to join the party; and the Captain Marvel role in particular is clearly an enticing one for her, as well as others. We’ll have to wait and see what happens, but Blunt joining the ranks of other new Marvel additions – such as Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther – certainly sounds promising.
