‘Star Wars 7′ Star Oscar Isaac Challenges Plot Rumors

Star Wars Isaac Star Wars 7 Star Oscar Isaac Challenges Plot Rumors
More so than most franchises – whether they belong to Marvel, DC, or any of Hollywood’s numerous majors – it’s Star Wars that fosters the most fan hypotheses. Star Wars has one of the largest fan bases in the grand scheme of all things geeky and awesome - or maybe it’s because Star Wars attracts the most enthusiastic fans. Maybe it’s just because the Star Wars universe is wide open and thus invites lively bouts of theorizing.
This is true even – or especially - of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which has become the subject of intense speculation as it continues crawling toward its release date. Rumors abound over 2015′s most anticipated movie, most of which remain unsubstantiated, some less so, and none of which, according to actor Oscar Isaac, hold any water as regards to the film’s actual plot.
Isaac may be best known for his performance in 2014′s Inside Llewyn Davis; before long he may be better known for his work in A Most Violent Year, which has just opened in theaters. But by Winter ’15, he’ll be widely recognized as Poe Dameron, and his career will change forever.
Speaking to Yahoo! Movies about his involvement in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Isaac marveled over his Star Wars experience, from production security to his feelings on sitting in an X-Wing for the first time.
He also shared his thoughts on the leaks that have dogged the project, as well as the countless conjectures that have been made about the film’s hushed up story. Read on for Isaac’s full quote:
“I can’t speak for the cast and crew, I can just speak for myself, but for me I thought, Don’t you want to wait so you can get the real thing? But it creates excitement for it. I don’t think these little leaks necessarily ruined watching the trailer. And also, the [plot theories] that get formulated based on these things — they couldn’t be more far off-base.”
Well, he has a point. Everyone wants to know what’s going to happen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, even though we just got our first glimpse at the film in last month’s teaser; it’s an understandable but self-defeating urge. Knowing everything now kind of numbs the thrill of seeing it for oneself in a theater for the first time.

The choice bit here, though, is his line about plot theories. It’s not surprising that anyone involved with the movie, particularly a principal in the cast, might try to coyly dispel all fan guesswork; for creative purposes, it just won’t do for Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ core audience to figure out its twists and turns three hundred plus days before it opens in theaters.
But let’s give Isaac the benefit of the doubt and suppose he’s being honest, and that all the theories posed about the film to date are, in fact, totally cuckoo. Do we all really have it wrong? Have the leaks given away none of the film’s true substance? Could be that everything we think we know about Star Wars: The Force Awakens is just bunk, which, admittedly, would be a nice surprise when the film premieres next December.
Of course, it’s hard to say. Isaac doesn’t point to any specific rumors, instead choosing to brush them all aside in one gesture. Maybe this is just misdirection, or maybe there’s more to Star Wars: The Force Awakens than rumors can tell.
Star Wars: Episode 7 will hit theaters December 18, 2015.
