‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ Rumor: Reshoots to Add More ‘Kick-Ass’ Action

Joss Whedon and Chris Hemsworth on The Avengers set Avengers: Age of Ultron Rumor: Reshoots to Add More Kick Ass Action
It’s got the notorious, evil A.I. robot as a villain, it’s got more of the Hulk, it looks to have an epic scope rivaling that of its predecessor, and it’s even got Andy Serkis - yes The Avengers: Age of Ultron, director Joss Whedon’s sequel to his mega-successful Superhero All-Star Jam, tops many a Marvel fan’s most-anticipated list of 2015 for good reason(s).
Age of Ultron‘s full-length trailer looked remarkably complete for a film that hadonly just wrapped production a couple months before (San Diego Comic-Con attendees saw much of it first, of course – the trailer footage was filmed early for a reason), but a new – albeit unconfirmed – report suggests that Whedon and some of the main cast will soon head to London for a round of reshoots.
According to the Daily Mail, the film’s headliners – Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Bettany and Tom Hiddleston – have “all been asked to make themselves available over a two-week period in January to film additional scenes at Pinewood Studios.”
Reshoots are common for movies of all kinds, but for expensive Hollywood blockbusters they’re practically a given. It’s not terribly surprising that Age of Ultron could see some additional shooting, what with it containing the most visual effects of any Marvel movie. However, the unofficial report suggests that the whole point is to add some action scenes.
As worded in the Daily Mail article:
I understand that, as with the James Bond films, Age Of Ultron — the second Avengers movie — needs a bit more kick-ass on an extravagant scale.

As production on Age of Ultron wound down, a stream of leaked set photos from other blockbusters like Batman V Superman and Ant-Man grabbed our attention, but for almost a whole year the set images from The Avengers 2 gave us our first peek at Ultron as well as major, spoiler-y looks at a large-scale action sequence which we’re now pretty sure is the big Hulk vs. Iron Man sequence featured heavily in the trailers.
The film doesn’t seem to be lacking in the action department, and it isn’t clear just how many of the stars will be needed for these supposed reshoots. The report includes details about the two-part Avengers: Infinity War shooting back to back “later next year” at Pinewood as well. Since we don’t yet know who will even be directing that project, we should perhaps take at least this portion of the news with a chunk of salt.
Again, reshoots are very common for a production of this scale, but we’ll have to wait for some kind of official confirmation to get a sense of what is being added and why.
The Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released in theaters on May 1, 2015, followed by Ant-Man on July 17, 2015, Captain America: Civil War on May 6 2016, Doctor Strange on November 4, 2016, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 on May 5 2017, Thor: Ragnarok on July 28, 2017, Black Panther on November 3 2017, Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 on May 4 2018, Captain Marvel on July 6 2018, Inhumans on November 2 2018 and Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2 on May 3 2019.
