‘Suicide Squad’: David Ayer Posts Photo of Jai Courtney Training for Captain Boomerang

Suicide Squad Movie Discussion Boomerang Suicide Squad: David Ayer Posts Photo of Jai Courtney Training for Captain Boomerang
Warner Bros. is set to expand its DC Cinematic Universe next year with Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. The blockbuster is a followup to Man of Steel, which introduced fans to a new incarnation of Clark Kent/Superman. Batman V. Supermanwill introduce new versions of Bruce Wayne/Batman as well as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman. After Batman V. Superman comes David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, which will utilize characters that are not as well-known as the ones in Zack Snyder’s followup.
The Joker and Harley Quinn – to be played by Jared Leto and Margot Robbie – are iconic Batman villains, but Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) is a lesser known Flash villain (though Arrow recently featured a live-action take on the character). However, for fans who are familiar with Captain Boomerang, a new photo offers some hints about the character’s new incarnation.
Posted to Twitter by Ayer himself, a behind-the-scenes photo shows Courtney training for his role in Suicide Squad. Though the picture is blurry, Courtney can be seen sporting mutton chops (along with a beard), which are as signature to Captain Boomerang’s appearance in the comics as his boomerang-patterned jumpsuit or scarf.
Courtney’s casting seemed to correspond with the original Captain Boomerang, George “Digger” Harkness, as they’re both Australian. However, with so much comic book mythos to pull from for Suicide Squad, it’s unlikely Ayer will strictly stick to the original character design of the villain. Like many other DC properties – including ArrowThe Flash, and Gotham – Suicide Squad may mix established characteristics with original ideas to create a fresh take on the comic mythology.
If you look closely, you’ll notice Courtney is sporting Captain Boomerang’s signature mutton chops. Of course, while it’s possible the chops won’t appear in the final film – maybe Courtney just likes the way they look – it seems likely considering they’re an iconic aspect of the character’s design.
What say you? Do you like approve of Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang? Are you looking forward to this film? Let us know in the comments.
Suicide Squad is set to be released on August 5th, 2016.
