After Ryan Reynolds originated the live-action role of Wade Wilson a.k.a. Deadpool in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the character became a fan-favorite choice for a spinoff film. Though, for many years, the movie had a director in Tim Miller, awilling star in Reynolds, as well as a script from Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick(Zombieland), Fox Studios didn’t announce it would move forward on Deadpooluntil late in 2014.
Fox set Deadpool for an early 2016 release so the film has had to move forward with pre-production rather quickly, though with a script, director, and its star officially on board, it seems to be on track. Now, Deadpool is scheduled to start production within the next few months.
Global News is reporting that Deadpool will film in Reynolds’ hometown of Vancouver, Canada, starting in late March. Fox Studios has booked North Shore Studios for two months and, though no other actors have been confirmed for Deadpool alongside Reynolds yet, both T.J. Miller (Transformers: Age of Extinction, Silicon Valley) and Ed Skrein (Game of Thrones) are rumored cast members who may join the Merc in Vancouver.
Other Fox/Marvel movies have filmed in the city before, such as Reynolds’ first turn as Deadpool, X2: X-Men United, X-Men: The Last Stand, and the two Fantastic Fourmovies released in the 2000s. Fox’s second X-Men film of 2016, X-Men Apocalypse, is set to begin filming in Montreal in April, though Gambit, starring Channing Tatum and recently announced as the third X-film to premiere next year, will shoot elsewhere.

Fox’s announcement of the Deadpool movie was made a few months after test footage featuring Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth was leaked online and received a widely positive response. Whether Miller’s final film will resemble the test footage remains to be seen but it may indicate what to expect from Deadpool, in terms of style and presentation.
Of course, the test footage may just be that, and only offer a glimpse at the tone ofDeadpool, in terms of the main character’s personality and the type of action that can be expected. Since the footage was shot prior to the film entering official production,Deadpool may look entirely different once it hits theaters. Compared to how long they had to wait for Deadpool to get the green light from Fox, fans will get to see some finalized footage sooner than later.
Deadpool is scheduled to premiere February 12th, 2016.
