Critics’ Choice Movie Awards 2015: ‘Birdman’ & ‘Boyhood’ Win Big

Tonight, less than 24 hours after the Oscar nominations were announced – and the whole world got to react to the various snubs – The Critics’ Choice Movie Awards revealed their picks for the best movies, actors, actresses, etc. of the year.

For the most part, things went down as one might expect (Birdman, Boyhood, andGrand Budapest were the big winners), though there were a couple surprises, too. Those of you who were disappointed that The LEGO Movie wasn’t even nominated for Best Animated Movie at the Oscars can take solace in the fact that it won that very award here.

The LEGO Movie wasn’t the only Oscar Snub The Critics Choice Awards rectified tonight. They also awarded Gone Girl for Best Adapted Screenplay, which was the category that the Academy neglected to nominate in. Then, in something of a surprise, Jenny Slater won Best Actress in a Comedy for the indie film Obvious Child.

And in a completely unsurprising move – though surely no less welcome by our readers – Guardians of the Galaxy won Best Action Movie and Best Hair and Makeup.
