We’re currently eagerly awaiting the recently-classified first trailer for Ant-Man, which is one of two Marvel Studios movie releases arriving in 2015. Meanwhile, this year’s other new film addition to Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, screenwriter/director Joss Whedon’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron, will be getting a second trailer (U.S. trailer, that is) in less than two weeks, as is revealed in the above video.
Ant-Man, the superhero/heist thriller from director Peyton Reed (Bring It On, Yes Man), is on the verge of beginning its proper marketing blitz; we should find out very soon (maybe tomorrow) if the first trailer will debut with the Agent Carter series premiere, as is rumored. UPDATE: Sure enough, today we received confirmation that the Ant-Man trailer will debut with Agent Carter, during the two-hour TV show event on ABC on January 6th, 2015.
The new U.S. trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron will arriving on January 12th this month, during the 2015 College Football Playoff National Championship that will air on ESPN, starting at 8:30 p.m. ET. Presumably, the preview will drop online soon thereafter, unless Marvel does what Universal did with the Jurassic World trailer back in November and unveils Age of Ultron trailer #2 online before its small screen debut.
The first Age of Ultron trailer focused on introducing the eponymous AI robot-turned megalomaniacal machine (portrayed by James Spader), while also teasing the much-hyped Hulk/Hulkbuster fight, as well as various dramatic moments in Whedon’sAvengers sequel. Thus, it stands to reason that this second trailer will instead better highlight the general story (while maybe providing a first look at Vision in action), but without giving away too many details on the process.
We now know a little more about how Ultron and Vision (J.A.R.V.I.S. voice actor Paul Bettany) enter the equation in Age of Ultron, thanks to some recently-unveiled promo art for the film. What remains a mystery is how these pieces fit together with all the other pieces (Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, Bruce Banner’s struggle, etc.) that make up the puzzle that is the Avengers sequel.
… And thankfully, the next trailer shouldn’t reveal too much about all that; just enough to keep everyone pumped, but still somewhat in the dark about everything that will be going down in Whedon’s “Empire Strikes Back of superhero movie sequels” - which is what the film is shaping up to be, in terms of its darker plot developments.
